5 Injuries To Be Aware of in Construction
Share This

Most people who choose to work in construction are already well aware of the accidents that could occur while on the job. However, not as many people consider what kinds of injuries these mishaps might entail. We’re here today to review the most common injuries that all construction workers should be aware of while on the job. That way, they can handle them accordingly if they face them someday.

Head Trauma

One of the biggest threats in the construction industry is head trauma. When putting together a building, some items can fall from elevated places. Sometimes a worker will be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Fortunately, almost all companies require their employees to wear a hard hat at all times. While something crashing on your head still might hurt, it’ll be much less likely to cause any lasting damage, thanks to the helmet.

Broken Bones

Of course, objects could fall onto other parts of your body as well. When this happens, it could result in a broken bone or two. Besides head trauma, broken bones can occur if a large object strikes you or two objects crush you between them. Broken bones could also result from you falling from a high surface.

Regardless of how it happens, you need to make sure you get to a hospital right away if your break something. The medical supplies you have on hand won’t be able to help you here.

Bruises or Sprains

Fortunately, broken bones aren’t overly common. More often than not, all the potential dangers from above will result in a simple bruise or sprain. Sprains can be a bit worse and keep you from working for a few weeks if they’re really bad, but both will heal up with simple elevation, ice, and compression.

Cuts or Lacerations

If the object that hits you is sharp, it’ll likely result in a cut or laceration. Small cuts will be easy to fix with on-hand medical supplies, but deeper ones will need a hospital visit. Sometimes, though, it can be difficult to know when to go to a medical professional.

In some cases, if you know how to treat a wound with heavy drainage, you might be okay not to rush there. Still, it’s better to play it safe in most cases rather than take the chance and suffer worse injuries because you delayed a visit.

Electrocution

The final injury you should be aware of in construction is electrocution. Electrical wires are abundant on the job site, and if someone doesn’t handle them properly, they’ll run the risk of getting electrocuted. This could result in severe burns, which you’ll need to have checked by a medical professional unless all you received was a minor shock. Either way, you should always be extra careful around wires.
