About Us

State News Journal is an independent digital news outlet published by 24World Media from Palatine, Illinois. Our reporting starts from a simple belief: most of the government decisions that touch daily life in the United States are made in statehouses, not in Washington. Governors sign the budgets. Legislatures set the taxes, write the school rules and decide how elections are run. State courts rule on the disputes that reach ordinary families first. We built this newsroom to cover that layer of American life straight, without spin and without pretending that national noise is the same thing as news.

What we cover

Our four desks follow state government and politics, state business and technology, state sports and entertainment, and health and science across the states. That means budget fights and tax debates, court rulings and ballot measures, major employers and energy projects, the stadiums and studios that states compete for, and the public health and research work happening at state universities and laboratories. Alongside state coverage, our World desk reports international stories that carry a direct American state angle, because trade, weather and world events land in state economies quickly.

How we work

Every story published here is original writing produced by our desk teams. We start from primary sources wherever they exist: bill texts, court filings, executive orders, official data releases, earnings filings and peer-reviewed studies. We check central facts against at least two reputable sources before publication, we attribute claims to the people and institutions that made them, and we say plainly when something is announced, proposed or merely promised rather than done. Headlines are written to match what the reporting actually proves.

Who writes here

Our stories carry honest desk bylines. State News Journal does not invent individual reporters, fabricate credentials or use stock-photo journalists. Each desk page explains what that desk covers, how it works and how to reach it. That transparency is deliberate: readers deserve to know exactly who stands behind a story, even when the answer is a team rather than a single name.

Our standards

We publish a corrections policy and a code of ethics alongside our news, and we hold ourselves to them. Errors are fixed openly. Sponsored material is labelled and never dressed as reporting. We do not accept payment to publish, remove or soften news coverage, and we do not trade favourable treatment for access.

State News Journal is a 24World Media publication. 24World Media, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, United States. Questions about our journalism are welcome through the contact page.

How to judge our work

Do not take our word for any of this. Read the stories. Check whether claims are attributed, whether numbers come from named sources, whether a headline promises more than the paragraphs deliver, and whether corrections appear when facts change. Our corrections policy, code of ethics, privacy policy and terms are published on this site, in full, precisely so readers can measure our behaviour against written commitments rather than slogans.

What we will not do

We do not publish rumour as news, we do not rewrite other outlets' reporting and present it as our own, we do not sell coverage, and we do not hide behind anonymous sourcing for claims we have not verified. When we are wrong, the correction is made in the open. When a story is developing, we label it developing. When a company or an official announces a plan, we report it as an announcement, not as an achievement.

A note on artificial intelligence and tools

Like most modern newsrooms, we use software tools for editing, transcription and data handling. Editorial judgement, verification and final publication decisions rest with our desk editors. No story is published here without passing through the same source-checking standard described above.
